Jimmy Church interview on July 5 - from Nashville!

Jimmy Church Interview July 5, 2012

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpPkB5eT2Vg

July 5, 2012 Interview with Jimmy Church
Conducted by Joe Viglione (JV)

JV: Welcome to Visual Radio, it is Thursday evening, July 5, 2012 and we're honored to have Jimmy Church on the phone.  Hello Jimmy!

JC: How 'ya doin'?

JV: I'm doing well, how about you?

JC: I'm doing good.  Honored to be your guest.

JV: Man, I was looking at your website, you are booked all over creation!

JC:  ...Oldies...I do the old stuff, still do it like I did in 1955, '65 and that's what carries me to this day.
People still like to hear the old music like it goes.

JV:  Do you know how many gigs you've probably performed over the years (both JV and JC laugh)

 http://collectorsfrenzy.com/Details.aspx?id=180575168812

JC: That's hard to say. That's really hard to say.  I wasn't blessed enough to have hit records, so I decided to get the music that the people that never changed, everybody likes the old school music.

JV: They certainly do

1 minute
JC: With that format, I've traveled halfway around the world. Still playing "Mustang Sally" like "Mustang Sally."   You know,  the same way.  By me being 73 I was born and raised during that time, I can still give the same feel that I did in 1965.

JV: Amazing

JC: You know, all the guys... I've been on shows with Wilson Pickett, Jackie Wilson, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, James Brown...all those guys. And all of them are gone, and I'm still here.   You know, (someone) I was talking about the other day, Bobby Hebb, we were very close.

JV:  Now you know that Bobby was on my third show, August 16, 1995

JC: No, I didn't know that.

2 minutes
JV: Bobby & I had been corresponding by mail, but we'd never met until he did my TV show.

2:06
JC:  Oh, OK.

JV: So that's how I met Bobby in person and then he did a bunch of my shows (2:10)
and I'd go around taping him when he performed live.

2:13
JC: OK, Bobby joined my group after he got out of the service. We were still in high school, 1957.  Still in high school, and Bobby came out of the service playing guitar. Because I saw him when we were younger
...(2:35) his mom and dad used to play on the bus.  You know, they were blind, and he used to play the spoons...we were young... I knew that (2:40)...but...towards meeting him and playing with him in music. He joined my band...well, my group, we had a group called the Five Seniors.  We did a record "Why Did You Leave Me" in 1957 (2:57), did it in high school, Bobby came out of the service...and we were just astonished the way he played guitar.  Man (we were  kids), he played it like   L.Pauling (3:10; Lowman Pauling) of The Five Royals...that was our idol, The Five Royals, we were patterned after them. (3:15)

And we did a little record and traveled, carnivals...and did some (----) Wilson shows, and Bobby played with us.  He's a great guy...man, he wrote a song for me that I went to New York and recorded (3:27) Kenny Burrell was the guitar player, Sticks Evans was the drummer, Mickey & Sylvia were the ones who did the session.

JV: Oh, Mickey and Sylvia did the session?

JC: Mickey, Mickey Baker.

JV: Right.

JC: (3:36) He was over the session, this was in...it must have been '60, no, it must've been  59...58...58...

(4:00)
JV: And what was the name of the song?

JC:  It was on one of those...ah...you know those  albums ...those old hits...those old songs you throw on ...those songs...man (laughs) ..."I Wish"...and I wrote the other side, sounded like a...some kind of (regular) rock & roll song I wrote ...it was on one of those ...back when they had all those songs they put on CD and they sell.

More Rockin' on Broadway
I WISH
written by Bobby Hebb
Produced by Mickey Baker
http://www.allmusic.com/album/more-rockin-on-broadway-mw0000222818

JV: Yep.

JC: It was on one of those things.  (4:34).  One of those, y'know.

4:39
JC: Bobby's words were so strong...

The legendary Buzzy Linhart who wrote "The Love's Still Growin' " and performed it on the first Carly Simon solo album talks to biographer Stephen Davis and Visual Radio host Joe Viglione on May 10, 2012.

Author Stephen Davis returns to Visual Radio to discuss his new book "More Room in a Broken Heart (The True Adventures of Carly Simon)", the unauthorized biography of Carly Simon featuring gorgeous photos by her brother Peter Simon. Davis talks to Visual Radio host Joe Viglione and chats on the telephone with the legendary Buzzy Linhart who wrote "The Love's Still Growing" on Carly's first solo album.

Author Lidea de Leon is spot on when she says THE BUZZ on Stephen Davis book...and we've got the Buzz...Carly's old friend Buzzy Linhart....on Visual Radio talking about the book!

The buzz on More Room in a Broken Heart, Stephen Davis' unauthorized biography of pop-music staple of the '70s and '80s, Carly Simon, was pretty bleak, but as a longtime fan of Simon and first husband James Taylor, I felt compelled to take a look at this first attempt to explore her life in book-length form.

FIGHT FOR THE FIELD

Directed by Joe Viglione
with special guest Paul Manganaro

On Saturday night, November 19, 2011, there was a boxing event held at Winchester Town Hall. Three of the matches were filmed by WinCAM's 2010 Producer of the Year, Joe Viglione. These fights featured West Point Military Cadet Teams vs. the New England All-Stars.

Dangerous Dana Rosenblatt and Irish Mickey Ward appeared at Town Hall and added to the festivities. They say "hello" to our audience from ringside.

On Thursday, December 15, 2011 Paul Manganaro appeared on Visual Radio Live to talk about the FIGHT FOR THE FIELDS

WinCAM has this event to air on Comcast 8, Verizon 36 and http://www.wincam.org The program will also post to YouTube as well as Comcast's new PROJECT OPEN VOICE. WinCAM productions from Medford resident Joe Viglione are some of the first in the United States to broadcast on Comcast's new Open Voice project Go to MadeinMedford.com forward slash visual_radio http://www.madeinmedford.com/visual_radio

In light of the town's need for sports programming, this is just another example of a volunteer pitching in and helping the Winchester community. Viglione and Manganaro also brought a tape/DVD to WinCAM of Rob Gronkowski of the N.E. Patriots giving a lecture and interview at Manchester Field.

Visual Radio runs at 9 PM on Tuesday nights; March 13 featured guest Charles Flood.

A DVD of FIGHT FOR THE FIELD went to WCTV Wilmington on March 19, the first station outside of Winchester to get the program.

VAMPIRE MONTH CONTINUES ON VISUAL RADIO at WinCAM!
AUTHOR ARTHUR LENNIG on VISUAL RADIO

Our Tribute To
Bela Lugosi in October continues!

On Thursday evening, October 13, 2011, Bela Lugosi biographer ARTHUR LENNIG will talk about his books THE COUNT (1974) and THE IMMORTAL COUNT (2003) on Visual Radio Live.

Lennig's book was the first in-depth look at the brilliant yet troubled life of Lugosi, the star of stage and screen who immortalized author Bram Stoker's vampire, with lines like "I never drink...wine" and "I am...Dracula" The 1974 edition, entitled The Count "The life and films of Bela "Dracula" Lugosi", contained 374 pages. Published by
Putnam, the book quickly sold out of its initial run and was not re-released by that New York publisher, making it very valuable in collector's circles.

On June 27, 2003, the University Press of Kentucky put out an amazing leather-bound hardcover edition with 174 additional pages and a new title: THE IMMORTAL COUNT: The life and films of Bela Lugosi. It expands upon the original work and pays great attention to detail. Among the dozen or so books on Lugosi many consider this the best read...and the most accurate.

Also on Visual Radio, author Frank Dello Stritto who is thanked in the Lennig book. Dello Stritto published his "Vampire Over London: Bela Lugosi in Britain" on Cult Movies Press in September of 2000. Like Lennig's THE COUNT, this is a 1st edition book that is fast becoming a collectors item as well.

Dello Stritto, a weekly contributor to Visual Radio, will discuss a classic Lugosi film The Invisible Ghost with Joe Viglione and Kevin Russo on October 13, 2011, for rebroadcast on the Friday night show, immediately preceding WinCAM's Friday Night at the movies.

Visual Radio Live airs on WinCAM at 8 PM on Thursday nights following The Wonderful Show Channel 8 on Comcast; Channel 36 on Verizon

The Malden movie show Reeling follows Visual Radio on Thursday Nights

Also - Boris Karloff in THE VEIL will broadcast Monday - Friday at 10 PM for at least the next two weeks! (see below)

discussing his appearance in October of 2010 on

"Joe, I'll tell you something. People stopped us in the street, each one of us at different times and, actually, in different places. People that we never saw before. And they said
"You were on TV...and I hadn't been on TV for quite a few years. And I told them about your show.

(They said) "I learned more about the Greenline on your show than I knew about the Greenline at all!"
