Congratulations my friend, and congratulations to WinCAM for making a tremendous choice for their award.
No one deserves recognition for their tireless commitment to public access television over these many years more than you than you.
You do it the "right way." No B.S. just straight from the heart and back to the community.
Funny how that concept gets corrupted in other communities. Cheers! Enjoy the holidays!

Matt O'Connor hosts The Rehearsal Space, a program taped in Stoneham in the earlier 2000's featuring the Medford band THE DEAL along with name artists.
When Matt was a Medford resident he attempted to get his show aired on TV 3.
TV3's self-appointed president Frank Pilleri refused to respond to Matt.
Keep in mind, Mr. O'Connor and the band The Deal, two separate Medford entities, had no other interaction with TV 3 Medford. They were simply ignored for no reason at all.
So much for the "Outreach" component of the Agreement TV 3 has with the City of Medford

The Honorable Judge Marie O. Jackson-Thompson (retired) found that
TV 3 Medford is running a private access station. This is a violation of the Agreement with the City of Medford (and, in turn, the City's Agreement with Comcast) which is something Visual Radio host and 31 year public access veteran Joe Viglione is fighting for: the rights of the Comcast subscribers and real Free Speech in the City of Medford.

As Producer of the Year in a neighboring town, I am determined to replace the entrenched Board of Directors with fresh eyes, clean hands and an efficient intellectual property attorney who will work to disinfect the Copyright violations and Free Speech abuses in the city of Medford, Massachusetts which abound due to the negligence of the issuing authority, Michael J. McGlynn, the long-toothed Mayor of Medford.

Dear friends:

I am deeply honored to have received the WinCAM 2010 PRODUCER OF THE YEAR award.

An official statement will be sent to the media, but I wanted Medford residents to know that our neighboring town has been most helpful to us in allowing me to tape and air a show on the Green Line featuring Dr. Wood and Carolyn Rosen, weekly broadcasts with Johnny Byers talking sports, news reports from Jim Morse and an author coming in this week thanks to the efforts of Joanne Codi. Along with A-list guests like Tommy James of
The Shondells, film critic Leonard Maltin, Variety Editor Bob Hofler, Michael Moore, The Dictators' Andy Shernoff and many others we've produced historical programming (with Harlow Giles Unger) as well as local politician Michael Day and so many others.

As I personally told Mayor McGlynn at a press conference this year, we have resources for Medford residents to tape and edit vital programming that can be aired on the Government Channel in Medford

For residents interested in what is going on next door in Winchester check out this press release on Patch.com

http://winchester.patch.com/articles/what-is-wincam-week

It is great to know that one can be creative in a supportive environment - and it is something that I wish for all Medford residents.

Sincerely,

Joe Viglione

Landing big names
By Diana Brown, 2/1/2004

Cable television host Joseph Viglione launched his Visual Radio Television show nine years ago in Woburn. He has lined up some pretty impressive interviews along the way, which number 300 now and have aired in many local towns. Virgin Airlines founder Richard Branson, singers Judy Collins and Suzanne Vega, performance artist Laurie Anderson, ''Mystic River" author Dennis Lehane, professor Stephen Hawking, and band members from The Doors, Grand Funk Railroad, The Rolling Stones, The Cars, and The Jefferson Starship, are just a sample of the notables Viglione has had on his show. Viglione writes for All Media Guide and is working on a book about Lou Reed's 1973 Rock 'n' Roll Animal Tour

Tue Oct 27, 2009, 12:00 PM EDT

Medford -

Now in its 14th year, Visual Radio kicks off with a special program that will feature a second interview with Norman Greenbaum taped at MATV in Malden.

The first interview with Greenbaum was published in a three-part series in the Transcript’s sister paper, the Malden Observer.

Woodstock performer Richie Havens as well as the legendary Paul Rodgers and Don Brewer of Grand Funk will also appear on this show.

Future shows will feature author C. David Heymann, who wrote “Bobby & Jackie,” and Michael Moore, who was interviewed by Visual Radio host and Medford resident Joseph Viglione at the Ritz in Boston on Sept. 30.

On Nov. 17, Viglione will release a 2 1/2-hour documentary, “Martin Balin: Live on the Boston Esplanade” on MVD.

Thirteen years in the making, the film contains interview footage, rare concert tapes and a full seven-camera shoot of the founding member of the Jefferson Airplane live at the Hatch Shell in Boston at the Oldies 103.3 show on June 14, 2008.

PUBLIC ACCESS:
Joe Viglione of Medford was just 15 years old in 1969 when he produced his first issue of Varulven, a fan magazine featuring interviews and film and music reviews. A collector of 8mm science fiction and fantasy films, Viglione was also an aspiring filmmaker and musician whose original songs first aired on WBCN-FM when he was 17.

While his magazine is no longer in production, Viglione has since founded a record label by the same name, worked as a radio station programming director, and continued writing about films and the Boston music scene. Locally, however, Viglione may be best known for his public access television show, "Visual Radio," which is broadcast in 18 towns including Arlington, Billerica, Burlington, Lexington, Medford, and Stoneham. A weekly segment airs in Manhattan.

Since launching "Visual Radio" in 1995, Viglione has produced more than 400 shows featuring interviews, concerts, and lectures by local authors, politicians, and community activists.

"Why do I keep doing this? It's in my blood and interviews keep coming my way," Viglione said.

In 1983 Joe Viglione had more local songs played in one year than any other artist on WBCN

Joe's show, Visual Radio, has run on Medford Community Cablevision; it is on hiatus for about a month in Medford as the station is under a Performance Evaluation which is reported on in the same issue of the Globe North West:

Joe began hosting TV Eye in 1979 - next year will be his 30th year on Cable Television!

"Joe Vig - The King Of Access TV in Boston" quote from Bill Press from Sirius XM Radio

In the "Community Briefing" section of the Boston Globe Northwest
Brad Kane writes:

MEDFORDCABLE COMPANY CRITICIZED IN HEARING:

Medford Community Cablevision was criticized for lack of financial accountability and no longer being a representative of the community as a whole at a recent performance evaluation hearing before retired Woburn District Court judge Marie O. Jackson-Thompson. The resignation of Medford TV3 general manager Dawn Natalia was announced by the station's attorney, David Skerry, who was later removed from the hearing by police for interrupting testimony of others.

See Skerry's removal here: closing in on 400 views

(tons of people on MySpace have been slipping over to view the You Tube of Mr. Skerry.
We have thousands of MySpace "friends" (sort of like subscribers) and some are already gleeful at the removal of Skerry)

Back to the Globe story:
The hearing came out of the report on public access television in Medford by City Solictor Mark Rumley, who recommended the hearing and an audit of the station's financial records. The station has received $818,000.00 from Medford cable ratepayers over the past three years. With the hearing complete, Jackson-Thompson can either call another hearing or make recommendations to Mayor Michael McGlynn

In an e mail to some of the Medford City Council I have requested that there be a focus on:

1)Violations of the station's own policies and procedures which may have been committed by board members and ex-board members and enforcing those policies (which would result in board members being suspended or terminated for violating policies they instituted and expect the ratepayers to obey)

2)The legality of each and every board meeting after Solicitor Rumley's report noted an erroneous or inconsistent list of named board membersThese are two key points.
If the board of TV 3 is found to have violated their own policies and procedures an oversight committee should suspend them and replace them.

“I’m here to make sure that this TV station is the best it can be for ourselves and for our children,” said the Honorable Judge http://www.wickedlocal.com/medford/archive/x1092581980

INFORMATION ON VISUAL RADIO

The Vincent Bugliosi interview is currently airing on ALL my stations
beginning last week. Please read this information and relay it to
Mr. Bugliosi. Thanks to David Kass for helping arrange this.

The population (meaning POTENTIAL AUDIENCE) we are reaching via Comcast is
1,176,190. We are looking into a hard number for cable subscribers and an
estimate of what percentage of the population has access to the show.

1 Million, One Hundred Seventy Six Thousand One Hundred and Ninety!

I'm working on data that is even more specific -

---the approximate homes that get our signal,

--- approximate potential viewers in those homes.

If 95% of the U.S. population has access to television, and if 65% of the
population subscribes to cable (one estimate, as stated, we're working on
specifics), one hour on Visual Radio provides a great opportunity to find
new readers and fans.

We also run on the entire RCN network. The RCN data will be available soon.

This is a look at the POPULATION, the CABLE SUBSCRIBERS, and the
POTENTIAL AUDIENCE for our broadcasts:

Please keep Visual Radio in mind for future authors and personalities.

Best,

Joe Viglione

INFORMATION ABOUT PROGRAM #411

Visual Radio #411

Guests:
Author Vincent Bugliosi
Medford City Councilor Paul Camuso

It is one of the most controversial shows in our history as famed
Prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi returns to Joe Viglione's Visual Radio and
discusses a book that is being blacked out by the national television
media - The Prosecution Of George W. Bush for Murder.

Prosecution Of Bush.com
http://www.prosecutionofbush.com/

In our continuing effort to bring real public access television to the
city of Medford, the second interview with Mr. Bugliosi is even more
intense than his first appearance about six years ago when the show was
broadcast out of 40 Canal Street, Medford.

Bugliosi provides the evidence as to why George W. Bush can and should be
prosecuted for the murder of U.S. Soldiers who were sent to a war built on
a stack of lies. Also discussed is the blackout of the book by the
national media and many of the publishing houses - not because they don't
agree with it - many of them do - but because of fear of reprisal.

Also on Visual Radio is first-time guest Paul Camuso who discusses
"River's Edge" and praises our program. Thank you, Mr. Camuso.

Medford City Councilor Paul Camuso joins a long list of guests that
include Mayor Tom Menino, presidential candidate Senator George McGovern,
Linda Ronstadt, comedian Margaret Cho, director David Koepp (scriptwriter
for Spiderman, Jurassic Park), best selling authors Pat Gaffney, Brad
Meltzer, folk singer Suzanne Vega, Professor Stephen Hawking, Boston Red
Sox players Curt Schilling, Jerry Remy, Johnny Pesky, Jefferson Airplane's
Marty Balin (who appeared 6/14/08 on the Esplanade in a free concert,
brought to you in part by Oldies 103.3 (sister station to WBCN) and Visual
Radio.

Visual Radio will have exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the
Esplanade concert, the practice for the show, and the concert itself.

Here's something novel - some fan has taken Joe Viglione's review of
Dionne Warwick's classic SOULFUL album - here's a video of Dionne performing The Beatles' WE CAN WORK IT OUT, utilizing Joe's review on YOU TUBE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fywz1zoI0Ts

Writes Joe Viglione in the All Music Guide: "Soulful is a major work in Dionne Warwick's deep catalog, and one worthy of study and appreciation. Starting off with her gutsy rendition of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling," the album shifts from songs containing the sweet and ever present voice found on '60s radio to one of a masterful artist in control, renditions of "Do Right Woman" and the tender approach to "I've Been Loving You Too Long" allowing these copyrights to be heard in a different and intriguing light. The album was recorded at American Sound Studios in Memphis, TN, with the great Chips Moman engineering and co-producing with Warwick. In her liner notes on the back cover the singer writes, "I hope you will enjoy experiencing with me the joy and excitement I felt in recording Rhythm and Blues -- my way." To quote blues singer Genya Ravan, "and she means it!" Working with the producer of the Box Tops' "The Letter" and Elvis Presley was a wonderful change and stretch for the woman who was so closely aligned with the music and production of Bacharach and David. Recording in the state that has bragging rights to Graceland was in vogue during the final year of the 1960s and into the early '70s. Like Tommy James' Elvis-influenced album, Soulful deserves a very special place in rock history. "We Can Work It Out" is what Otis Redding might have done with the material, while "Hey Jude" has a church-like feel, not immersed in gospel but enough of that flavor to lift it above its pop confines. The short fade with the voices bouncing off the horns was a very nice way to close out the album. There are three Beatles covers as well as some Young Rascals, Aretha, Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell, and James & Bobby Purify. Moman also crafted Petula Clark's Memphis this same year, and both Petula and Dionne take on Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready," indicating perhaps what these Top 40 singers were feeling in their heart -- the need to express themselves on compositions that they found compelling. "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" is the standout, not because it was the hit from this collection but because Dionne takes on a new fire, pouring her heart over the great drum work. This version of the song gets little to no airplay on oldies stations, let alone blues and R&B radio, which is tragic. Warwick is a pro as well as a major talent, and Soulful deserves to be treasured as the important musical statement that it is."
Writes Nick Tosches, the renowned writer, rock music journalist, novelist, biographer and poet in the January 7, 1972 issue of the rock magazine FUSION; "...getting into Dionne Warwick is like finding buried treasure. It's pure emotion. There is a whole lot more to emotion than some rock punk bursting his dexedrine-staved blood vessels by screaming "Baby I need you baby" into a microphone. Dionne Warwick is not a rock and roll singer. She's not a jazz singer either. Rhythm and blues? Nope. A pop singer? No way. Did you ever tongue-kiss with someone who barfed a Singapore Sling bolus into your mouth, and then four years later you're with someone else and you feel good and you realize how beautiful it all was and then it's all melancholy/happiness, sort of? That's the kind of singer Dionne Warwick is. She's beautiful. If you've never gotten into her, you ought to. Get hep to Dionne Warwick. For your own sake."
